I might be a little crazy...

Who isn't?  But, I got the BEST idea the other day!  My friend Julie wrote a really nice message to me about the blogpost below and it prompted me to look through some of her pictures of her beloved city.  Oh, did I mention she's been living in PARIS the past few years?  Yeah well, the girl is living a lot of Americans' dream I think.  I have never been overseas.  The only country I've been to is Puerto Rico (and even though it was a great trip) I don't really count it because it's a US territory.

So I got to thinking.  I turn 28 this December.  What if, I planned a trip to this amazing city for my 30th birthday?  I can't believe I can even START talking about this.  I will be 30 in a little over two years.  That's insane.  When I actually brought up the idea to Julie, she said "Of course! But 30? I have no idea what you're talking about".

My 20's have been rough.  A lot of crazy stuff has happened and what better way to usher in a new decade of my life?  It's brilliant... or completely nuts.  Why?  Because I will have to do ALL the following...

1. Get over my fear of flying across an ocean.  I unfortunately watched LOST the whole way through.  Didn't do much for my fear of flying.  Ever seen the movie French Kiss w/ Meg Ryan?  Yeah, my fear is only slightly less than her character's was.
2. Pay off ALL my debt.  Thus my credit cards have been put in a block of ice in my freezer.  I've been trying to pay off the debt for some time now.  Working in childcare didn't allow me to do so very effectively.  Currently with my new job, but higher rent...it's still tight.  Hoping to find ways to make it happen though!  I even opened a Venture card so that I can transfer the debt and pay it off there.  That way, when I do need to use credit... I will at least earn some miles! (Thanks for the tip Al!)
3. SAVE, SAVE, SAVE.  After the debt is paid off I'll have to save enough for a passport, a plane ticket, and for lots of shopping because... It's Paris.
4. Re-learn the language.  I took French in middle school and high school (where my love affair with the city began).  Since coming up with this idea over the weekend, I have checked out cd's at the library, ordered a workbook off amazon, bought a new French dictionary(my old one was from 1978), and started attempting to translate French news articles on Le Monde's website.  I was surprised at how much I retained.  It will still be challenging.  I figured...if I'm going to make this trip.  I'm going to get a full experience!  Wouldn't want anyone to have to translate absolutely everything.
5. Don't chicken out.  Yeah, the flying freaks me out.  A new country and foreign language?  Scary.  This is two years away.  A lot can happen in two years.  I know that too well.  But I cannot back out of this.  Seeing la belle france is something I've wanted to do since I was 12 years old.  Time to make it happen.
